Our friends invited us the other evening to accompany them while trying a new restaurant called Blackboard Bistro. It is a small restaurant, the kind you would drive by and miss if you did not know to look out for it. Once inside we were delighted to see a straightforward menu scrawled on the wall, divided into two categories: sweet and savory. From there we were greeted by our server who informed us the food was family style and the chef brought out the courses in the order he saw fit. Now here was not only a chef's dream, but a culinary adventure waiting to happen.
We started with a beet and feta appetizer, moved into a cuttle fish and purple potato dish with the most delicious herb oil sauce, followed by gnocchi with ox tail and blue cheese dish, then pork sliders with cheese pierogis on the side and lastly, a peanut butter and chocolate molten cake with vanilla and jam ice cream. It was such a fun evening spent with friends and as each dish came out it was not only a feast for the eyes and stomach, but all the senses.
If you don't mind giving up all control or have a hard time deciding what to order, they offer a name your price tasting menu where all you decide is how much you want to spend and then the chef decides what and how much to bring you.
