Gordon Skagit Farm in Mount Vernon
These past few weeks we have spent a significant amount of time exploring local farms, in particular farms around Mount Vernon. When it comes to apple picking, lack of crowds, unique looking pumpkins and friendly staff Gordon Skagit Farm is by far one of my favorites.
This is the third year we have come to Skagit Gordon and it only seemed appropriate to come here on Asher's birthday. Last year, we came here a couple days after Asher was born. The sun was shining, my heart and body were starting to heal and being here just made me downright happy.
My experience this year was very similar, the sun was shining and just being here made my heart happy. The older I have become, the more I have realized how important it is to not only recognize, but fiercely hold onto the little moments of happiness in your life. This reservoir of happy memories has helped me through the saddest and darkest of times.
Each year, I anticipate the opening of their apple orchard and make certain to head up there while the picking is good. I don't know what it is about apple picking, but I love pulling the apples off the branches and feeling a sense of accomplishment settle in as my basket gets heavier and heavier.
After the apple picking, we head over to select our pumpkins and gourds. I like to think if Martha Stewart owned a pumpkin patch that it would look exactly like this. The displays are thoughtful and the pumpkins are nestled in between original artwork by the owner.
