A little bit about Lisette.....

Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest I feel most alive surrounded by trees and breathing in the fresh mountain air.

When I am not working you will most likely find me spending time outdoors, volunteering with my church and exploring this beautiful planet with my family.

This is my place to share my passion for life and to encourage you to take time to find the extraordinary in your life.

The Lodges on Vashon

The Lodges on Vashon

Last week, we had the opportunity to stay on Vashon Island while we checked out the Lodges on Vashon. Even though I have visited Vashon Island numerous times, I have never spent more than a day there. Living in West Seattle, Vashon Island is a place I look at across the water pretty much everyday without thinking much about it. It is a beautiful place, but I have never considered it a destination for a weekend adventure. Now that I know such airy, light filled, and hip accommodations exist I foresee many more trips to the island in my future. Early one afternoon, Jasper and I boarded the ferry for our ten minute crossing to our island getaway. With the sleek water taxi service from downtown, Cameron would be joining up with us after work.

Once we arrived, we were immediately smitten with all the thoughtfully planned public spaces at the Lodges on Vashon. And the party planner in me had all sorts of ideas for the types of parties it would be fun to host there this Summer.

Once in our room, I was immediately impressed by the coordination of artwork and accessories. I have been wanting to tackle some projects at home for a few months now and being in this space for a couple days was just the inspiration I needed. From the hanging air plant in the bathroom to the personalized soap, every item in our room was well thought out.

Early the next morning, we took the leisurely five minute walk to the main drag to find breakfast and do a little exploring. We were greeted by friendly shopkeepers, delicious pastries and plenty of visual inspiration.

Jasper thoroughly enjoyed walking along the meandering paths on the property and swaying back and forth in the hanging swings at the Pavillion.

Nap time was spent cozied up by the fire planning our next adventures in the coming month, journaling and enjoying these locally made caramels.

I loved the addition of succulents throughout the space, it made it feel homey without being cluttered.

We spent our afternoons exploring parks, walking on the beach and driving down country roads. It felt like we had happened upon our own private island as we found ourselves alone in our explorations the majority of the time.

The weather was a mixture of rain, clouds and sun during our time on the island. We enjoyed views of Mount Rainier while we walked on the beach.

The most charming caretaker's cottage at Point Robinson Park. I was really contemplating what it would be like to go home, pack my bags and move in.

In the sleeping nook Jasper really enjoyed having this day bed for stories, playing and eating breakfast, but this room would also be perfect for sleeping an additional two people.

Our favorite place to hang out was at the Pavilion, an open air space with heat lamps and lighting overhead and an outdoor fireplace and ample seating for you and your friends. This space is free for guests, but is also available for rental.

The Public House is another public space which would be perfect for an intimate dinner, an indoor space to hang out with other guests or a space to watch television or play games as a group.

The private outdoor patio off the bathroom.

The overriding theme of our stay at the Lodges on Vashon was simplicity. Simplicity in design, style and life in general. Once we settled into our Meadow Suite and life on the island I immediately noticed a distinct difference in the pace of life. I came back from my time on Vashon Island refreshed and with a renewed interest in this little neighboring island. From now on, Vashon will be in the forefront of my mind for great locations for a quick, easy and unexpected weekend getaway.
