Hiking to Lookout Mountain
Early one evening during our stay at Sun Mountain Lodge we headed out for a hike. With limited cell service we did not do our research on the trail, but rather took someone's suggestion on it being a nice, short hike. We headed up an empty forest service road for what felt like miles and miles until the road was a little too bumpy for our liking. Then we parked our car at a turn out and started trekking up the road. Determined to see the wildflowers and sunset we endured what seemed like hundreds of mosquitos buzzing in our ears. At one point Jasper exclaimed, "They think I have nectar in my ears!" Oh how my sweet boy and I ended up with a ridiculous number of bites as our souvenir from this hike.
Although we never made it to the fire lookout, I later learned it was a nine mile hike. We had a lovely evening in the mountains watching the sunset and being together. Despite the bugs, I was reminded how much I love this time of year when the days stretch on forever and before you know it it is ten o'clock and you are still outside having fun in the sunshine.
I never feel happier then when I am in the mountains. These views never get old and the evening light always makes my heart very happy.
