Outside the Box Creation
As the weather continues to change and we shift to spending more time indoors, it is easy to fall into the habit of doing the same things with our children. Whether that be baking, board games, crafts, or screen time it is easy to get stuck in a rut with how you spend your time. Well, that was before we discovered Outside the Box Creation, a monthly art subscription box created for both children and parents alike.
Gone are the days of trying to think up something creative for your children to do or worse yet trying to plan an art lesson after they have gone to bed. Especially in this day and age where time and money are precious resources, it is nice to have a creative infusion like Outside the Box Creation in our lives. Outside the Box Creation was created by Beth Herrild, a mother of three and an art docent who knows how challenging it can be to incorporate art into your life.
With Outside the Box Creation, you will receive a book, beautiful art supplies, and a project featuring a different element or style of art and medium. If your children are anything like mine new books and art supplies are their two favorite things. When you combine the two in an adorable box shipped directly to our home there were literal squeals of delight when we opened the box. In this month's box, we received the book "If Monet Painted a Monster" where we learned about famous artists and their styles of painting combined with the ever-popular monster theme. I am a little embarrassed to admit my six-year-old had not heard of all the artists featured in this book. However, it was a good reminder of how I should spend a little more time teaching my children about things I am not an expert in either.
As we worked to construct our individual monsters I was surprised at how many times I tried to intervene as opposed to letting my child freely create. This was another good reminder of how important it is to not stifle your children's creativity by imposing your own ideas of what "good" art is. Once we finished drawing our monsters we were instructed to write a little story about our monster. Once again I was reminded how I should practice impromptu storytelling with my children a bit more. In our busy lives it is easy to overlook the power of art and the process of creating, but Outside the Box Creation reminded me of the importance of those fundamental ideas.
If you are looking for a fun and educational gift, a way to bring more art into your life, or a new way to entertain your little ones. Look no further than Outside the Box Creation.
