Mitchell Fenton
While browsing through a local art gallery in Banff I came across this amazing artist named Mitchell Fenton. It is uncommon for me to want every single painting by a particular artist, but Fenton is an exception. His large scale landscape paintings are breathtaking as he perfectly captures the Canadian landscape. Something incredibly unique about him is how he sells his plein air panels too.
As an avid hiker I love how he has captured his adventures on canvas. It certainly makes me want to consider not only bringing along my camera, but trying my hand at some paints too.
Mitchell was kind enough to spend some of his precious time to do a little interview with us for this blog.
1. How has your work with sculptures influenced your painting?
My previous sculptural work enables me to make supports and frames for my paintings. I had great fun designing and building.
2. Finish this sentence....I never go on a hike without__________.
My plein air kit. I think about sculpture alot and shortly plan to reintroduce some 3D work with my paintings....I never go hiking with out my "kit"
3. Where has been your most memorable place to paint?
Lake O'Hara in Yoho national park has been probably my favourite place to paint, the most memorable trip was the first time I went there.
4. What makes you love the place you live?
Wards Island is a very special place to live, the appeal is immediately clear when you leave downtown on the old ferry boat to come over to the Island.
5. How do you separate work from play?
I don't, I'm pretty serious about my play.
6. What has been your favorite part of leading a creative life?
Meeting people, and sharing my work with them.
