Anniversary cake
For our anniversary I usually try to make a delicious and visually appealing cake. Several years ago, in lieu of gift giving, we decided to spend our money on things we could enjoy together (ie. eating out at a fancy restaurant, going away for the weekend, attending a musical or a concert etc.) Making this cake has turned into a small token of my love on our special day.
At our wedding we had tiers of both lemon and a chocolate cake. Since I normally make a few peanut butter and chocolate cakes for special occasions throughout the year, I like to reserve lemon for our anniversary cake. On Pinterest I have a Cakes page, so within minutes I found the perfect cake, a Lemon Lavender Buttermilk cake. It seemed easy enough to make and I was excited to infuse lavender into a cake for the first time. If you glanced at the recipe, you may notice I omitted the lemon glaze and instead used the buttercream for both the top and middle. I wanted something nice and thick to place the gorgeous peonies on.
If you know my husband then you know the way to his heart is sweets. This cake ended up being a hit and one I look forward to making again in the future. Now, in the meantime what to do with all this leftover cake??
