Touring the ships on Seafair weekend
Last weekend, us and half the city of Seattle waited in line to tour the Navy ships over Seafair weekend. Although we thought we had gotten an early start, it appeared countless others had a similar plan for the day. As we waited in line the weather cooperated and was the perfect blend of sunshine and clouds. Being down on the waterfront allowed for a constant cool breeze and we were never too hot as we waited.
Good conversation, temporary tattoos, and other Navy paraphernalia entertained us while we waited. Once aboard we were given a brief, but thorough tour of the USS Chancellorsville. I loved how the colorful flags danced in the wind and brought visual excitement to the sea of gray.
After waiting in line and our ship tour, we had worked up quite the appetite. It was fun to be able to do a little something out of the norm from our usual hiking on Saturday. Afterwards, we enjoyed lunch down on the waterfront at Cafe 56 as the Blue Angels sporadically whizzed by overhead. Summer in Seattle really can't be beat, so I say let's keep up the rumors that all it does is rain in Seattle.
