Scandic Vulkan
When planning our trip to Oslo we knew we wanted to stay somewhere fun, hip and with a local flair. Making certain there were cool places to eat and fun shops nearby was also very high on our priority list. So when I stumbled upon Scandic Vulkan it was a match made in heaven. The Scandic Vulkan is located in the up and coming Vulkan neighborhood, surprisingly the area and its recent growth reminded us a lot of Seattle. In just a two minute walk from the hotel you are inside arguably one of my favorite spots in Oslo- Mathallen Oslo. Mathallen Oslo has an endless array of delicious things to eat and pretty things to look at. Eating out is admittedly one of our favorite things to do and food is consistently at the top of our souvenir list.
We stayed in a Superior corner room at the Scandic Vulkan and due to the configuration of our room Jasper was able to have his own little sleeping area. With floor to ceiling windows not only did we have gorgeous natural light, but we had a lovely view of the surrounding area to wake up to each day.
From the assortment of fresh fruit and cheese to the yogurt, sausage and eggs, we thoroughly enjoyed the complimentary breakfast each morning.
The courtyard which separated our hotel from Mathallen Oslo was the perfect spot for people watching and for Jasper to be able to run around after a day of sight seeing.
While Jasper slept our BOSE noise canceling headphones allowed us to watch t.v. and not make us feel like we were disturbing him.
After a very long day of waking up early, taking an early morning flight from Iceland and arriving in an unfamiliar city we were able to walk across the courtyard and fill our stomaches with some of the best food we had on our trip. There were fresh fruit and vegetable stands, gelato, pastries, and scrumptious little slices of bread topped with bites of this and that. Basically, I would call Mathallen Olso a hungry person's dream. After filling up on freshly made shredded chicken sandwiches, truffle chips and the most perfect cherry tomatoes we were able to walk another two minutes to the local grocery store and pick up some essentials for our son. When you travel with children convenience trumps just about every other desire, so we were fortunate to find a place which met our needs on so many different levels.
Jasper was huge fan of the floor to ceiling windows in our room and spent most of his time walking along them.
From the Scandic Vulkan it was a short walk to hop on any public transportation which quickly took us into the heart of the city where most of the museums and tourist attractions were.
We loved exploring the area surrounding our hotel and enjoyed stopping at all the fantastic murals throughout the city.
Dongvill is an amazing burger restaurant located very close to the Scandic Vulkan. We normally do not eat burgers very often, but this place was so delicious we ate here not once, but twice.
As the daughter of an architect and a trained Interior Designer I was thoroughly impressed with the creative and functional nature of Oslo's architecture.
As a Seattle native, this Hendrix cafe made me smile. I love how music unites people and transcends both time and space.
One morning, we picked up some delectable handmade pastries from Handwerk Oslo. I love any place where you can see your food being made.
We found Oslo very easy to navigate and full of wonderful little discoveries. We would love to visit again, maybe next time in the hustle and bustle of the Summer.

We found the Scandic Vulkan to be the perfect base for exploring Oslo. Oslo is such a bright and lively city it only seemed fitting to stay in such a fun place.
