Jasper's third birthday
Jasper is old enough now that he often lets me know what he wants to do. He will say he wants to go to the park, ride his bike, go to the farmer's market etc. When we were discussing different ideas of what we could do on his birthday he liked the idea of visiting the new fire station by our house. After settling on this idea I remembered we had a fire truck cookie cutter we could use to make cookies. Once I suggested we make fire truck cookies for the fire fighters he was very excited about this idea. The entire time we were making the cookies he kept saying, "the fire fighters are going to be so happy" I love his kind heart and gentle spirit and I feel it is important to do everything in my power to foster it.
Although it took nearly all morning (I always forget how much work sugar cookies are), loads of patience (on both our parts) and a ton of clean up I think the photos speak for themselves. We had a fun, memorable, noteworthy day which was exactly what I had hoped for to celebrate our little guy.
There is nothing more important than the role of the taste tester and Jasper is always willing to do his part. Jasper has turned into quite the funny man and freely laughs at all his own jokes.
It had been awhile since we last used cookie cutters. So he thought it was a fantastic idea to pile them all into the bowl. I am reminded the importance of letting him discover without intervention. Even though it is instinctual to jump and help I am trying to step back more and let him problem solve more often.
Our finished product wasn't award winning, but Jasper was pleased with the results and that was all that mattered.
I am grateful for the kindness of all the Seattle fire fighters. These guys are always happy to give a high five, pass out a sticker, let him sit in their fire truck, and who take the time to explain the differences between the trucks or any other questions he might have. They make my son feel like a million bucks and I could never put a price tag on that! Also, they were very touched that Jasper wanted to do something for others on his birthday. I am proud of my little dude and how much he is always thinking of others.
