Out and About with Kids: Camano Island
Two weekends ago we ventured up to Camano Island for the day. We were pleased when the rain subsided and we were able to see glimmers of blue sky throughout the afternoon. We have had such a wet February and March we are grateful anytime the rain decides to stop for an hour or two.
Our first stop was Camano Island State Park. Poor planning on our part, but we arrived at high tide. There was very little beach left for us to play on, but we still managed to find all the cool shells, rocks, sticks and seaweed on the beach. Only the past few weeks have I seen evidence of how intensely Jasper watches everything I do. I see him doing things I have never purposefully taught him, but he has learned through watching me. For instance, he likes to stack up rocks and shells on logs like me, but he also really gets a kick out of messing them up when I am trying to take a photo.
These days he is adamant about doing most things by himself like walking up steps, no matter how many there are.
Or insisting on riding his bike repeatedly through only the deepest puddle.
Our next stop was Cama Beach. Having never been here before and were excited to see the Center for Wooden Boats other location and the wonderful cluster of cabins to rent and fire pits to roast dinner s'mores at.
While we were at Cama Beach I was intrigued by all these barnacles which had formed on the inside of these shells. Nature is so mind boggling in its perfection!
Camano Island is such a fun place to visit for the day. I am certain we have only scratched the surface on fun beaches and parks to check out.
