Book Club for kids
A couple months ago a few friends and I were talking about the idea of starting a kid's book club. As many of you know I am pretty obsessed with children's books so this seemed like the perfect thing for us to participate in. Ever since I first found out I was pregnant with Asher the one thing I slowly started buying was books. Oodles and oodles of books. Since adding Jasper to our family I have continued to buy plenty of books and supplement his hunger for books with many trips to our local library.
February marked the first month of our little book club and it felt like a really good reason to get the boys together for a couple hours mid week. For those of you who want to follow along in our Book Club journey the first book I selected was A River. I will be honest I was initially drawn to this book by its cover, but after doing a little more research I completely fell in love with the work of Marc Martin. Each page of A River is a visual feast for the eyes and I found it drew in both young and old readers alike.
This time I kept book club very simple. A few days ahead of time I made certain to purchase a copy of the book for each child who was attending. A couple hours before the party I drew a windy river on a piece of card stock for each child. Once the children arrived they were able to work on their art project while I read the book. After the book and art project we had an assortment of snacks and then a little play time together. We have already selected the date for our next book club and I am excited to see what books is selected.
