Summer jaunt in the North Cascades
After a quick detour from the San Juans we found ourselves camping next to a rushing river and towering pine trees of the North Cascades. The North Cascades will always hold a special place in our hearts and we figured this would be an easy way to squeeze in a socially distant hike or two in the midst of our otherwise quarantining Summer.
Cutthroat Lake is one of our go to Summer hike for kids in the North Cascades. With minimal elevation gain low mileage, and plenty of streams, boulders and wildflowers along the way to make it interesting. When your children are up with the sun it is easy to hit the trail early and beat all the crowds. As were we almost back to the car we spotted group after group starting to hit the trail. As much as it is nice to sleep in, now more than ever it is nice to enjoy nature all to ourselves.
