Tucker House on San Juan Island
After months in quarantine and in desperate need of a change in scenery we snuck away to San Juan Island for one night at Tucker House Inn & Harrison Suites. We planned our trip just right before the crowds for the Fourth of July descended upon Friday Harbor. We stayed in the Lopez Suite with plenty of room to cook, eat and hang out as a family. With views of the town and harbor it was a welcome change of pace from our home in West Seattle.
With our windows and doors left wide open at our suite and flowers in bloom throughout the property the feeling of Summer was in the air.
Tucker House and & Harrison Suites are conveniently located just a stone’s throw away from downtown Friday Harbor. Within a five minute walk you can catch the ferry, shop a local bookstore, pick up provisions for a picnic, dine at a local restaurant or grab an ice cream cone. With 800 square feet to enjoy, we as a family were happy to just hang out in our suite, read books, make dinner and do the usual bedtime routine. As much as I love traveling as a family, traveling with a baby and young child can be a lot of work. Whenever we go places it always feels a bit more of a relocation than a true break and that is why larger accommodations such as what Tucker House can offer are so appealing.
Gorgeous night time views out our windows.
Mornings with children start early and go full throttle. It was so lovely waking up to a breakfast basket delivered to our door (at our preferred time nonetheless) brimming with fresh juice, milk, fruit and hot entrees. As a parent to young children there is nothing more frustrating than scouring the grocery store aisles or trying to locate a healthy breakfast for your children when on vacation. Anna Maria took the guess work out of this by providing just what we needed with any dietary restrictions easily met. As much as I enjoyed our suite with the luxurious bed, beautiful morning light and spaciousness, I think it is safe to say I enjoyed breakfast the most.
Peanut Butter and Jelly waffles for the kids, breakfast croissants for the adults, fruit parfaits, juice and toast for everyone. With full stomaches we were able to tackle a full day of exploring the island before setting off on our next Summer adventure.
A short drive from Tucker House is Cattle Point, a favorite spot for us to explore on San Juan Island. There are fields of beautiful wildflowers, tide pools to explore, plenty of wide open space for us to roam and when we are lucky a seal pup or two might visit us.
