Infusing your life with color
(Rachel Ann Austin print above)
As a trained Interior Designer, it might come as a surprise to hear my wall color of choice is typically white. However, when your walls are a blank canvas it allows the other color throughout your house to pop. Oftentimes, I like to set up happy little vignettes in our living room like the one pictured above.
Vignettes are easy to set up and usually consist of the following pieces:
- a print from a local artist
- a natural element usually a treasure from a hike like a stick, rock or shell
- Voluspa candle to make the room smell divine
- homemade flower garland or a pretty vase with fresh flowers
- something colorful to prop behind the artwork, above is a piece of painted wood I found washed up on the beach, but you could also use a piece of wallpaper or paper glued to a board.
Some things to consider:
- Always use an uneven amount of items
- Add elements with texture
- Play with items of different sizes.
Whenever it comes down to practicality or pretty I tend to choose pretty. I am a sucker for color, whether it be rain boots, leather chairs or books. Like I always say, no one ever says "that is a great color on you" in regards to black. Wearing bright colors or even looking at fun color always puts a pep in my step.
How about you, how do you prefer your color? In small doses? In the form an accent wall? A bold piece of furniture? Do tell.
