A little bit about Lisette.....

Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest I feel most alive surrounded by trees and breathing in the fresh mountain air.

When I am not working you will most likely find me spending time outdoors, volunteering with my church and exploring this beautiful planet with my family.

This is my place to share my passion for life and to encourage you to take time to find the extraordinary in your life.

Spring brunch

Spring brunch

Winter around here was rough! Endless colds and more than our fair share of rain made for a one two punch this Winter. In honor of a fresh start, hopes of a healthier season ahead and any excuse to party I decided to usher in Spring by hosting a weekday celebration. This year, I am making a conscious effort to fill my home more with the people I love. During a usual work week I hardly even sit down for lunch let alone get to visit with several of my friends at once so I thought it would be fun to invite a few ladies over for brunch.

When I think of Spring my thoughts turn toward renewal and flowers. I wanted the celebration to be special so I enlisted the help of Sarah Abare from The Stemmery who provided the lovely centerpiece.  I was excited to be able to introduce my friends and readers to her flower subscription company called The Stemmery. I am a flower girl at heart and I cannot think of a lovelier gift than receiving monthly, weekly or even biweekly flowers from someone I love.

I thought it would be fun to do a little Q&A with Sarah to learn a little more about her and her business. So here goes.....

I noticed your bouquets all have outdoor inspired names. Where do you find your inspiration for your arrangements?

I started The Stemmery because I wanted to combine my love for nature with desire to create. My three floral designs - Rainier Bouquet, Cascadian Stems and Olympic Blooms - are an homage to the great outdoors and also to the beautiful Pacific Northwest. I source all my flowers as locally as possible as well, so the arrangements really to reflect the changing seasons of our region.

Why did you decide to go with a flower subscription company as opposed to being a traditional florist?

There are lots of amazing wedding and event florists and well as floral shops in Seattle. I was looking for a way to enter the market, doing what I love, in a way that is a little different. I feel like there is a big market for floral subscriptions in Seattle, where people love nature, fresh and local products.

What is your favorite flower in each season?

This changes often, but right now I’d say: Winter: Privet Berries (I know this isn’t a flower, but I love them); Spring: Hellebores; Summer: Cafe Au Lait Dahlias; Autumn: Probably Echinacea. Or more Dahlias (they last into the fall).

Where does your whimsical approach come from?

I like the bouquets and arrangements i create to really just feel like an extension of the outdoors, so I don’t want each stem to appear so carefully placed (even though it usually is!) - I want it to look like it all just happened naturally.

What were the flowers which comprised the bouquet you delivered to me?

Bay Leaves, Chocolate Lace, True Blue Eucalyptus, Leucadendron, Scabiosa, Grevillea Flowers, Olive Foliage, and Rice Flower.

Thank you Sarah!
