When we have a houseguest
Cameron's niece came for a visit last week and I think it is safe to say she has been my favorite house guest to date. During her stay, she was so helpful and kind with Jasper I was able to do a few things which I normally cannot do like go running early in the morning or run a few errands during Jasper's nap. I don't think she realized just how much I appreciated having her around, but having an extra pair of hands throughout the day was an added bonus to her company. We spent the week hiking, berry picking, visiting a few touristy spots in the city, hosting a beach party, doing a little shopping for college and eating lots of yummy food. She was such a delight to have I was super bummed when the time came for her to go home. Anna we miss you! Come back to visit soon!
Before she came to visit I made a long list of things we could do. Her first choice was strawberry picking because she had never done it before. Jasper and I were eager to show her the ropes and fill our freezer with more berries.
Head taste tester! We went early in the season and late and we found the berries at the end of the season were much tastier.
Anna was such a good sport. Here is Jasper "swimming" while she tried to pick berries.
The proud owners of ten pounds of strawberries. Now what to make with our haul?!
I have been coming to Harvold's for as long as I can remember. One of the perks of living in the general vicinity of where I grew up is I can share these traditions with my own children as well.
When we have out of town guests or are wanting to do something fun in the city we like to eat at Elliott's on the waterfront. You cannot beat the view or the seafood.
We took Anna to the top of the Space Needle. We were fortunate to have a "blast pass" which meant we were able to bypass all the lines. Such a nice treat!
And while we were up at the top of the Space Needle, the sky turned ablaze and we watched the most epic sunset unfold before our very eyes.
And what trip to Seattle is complete without a trip to Pike Place Market. We hit our usual favorites and ate lunch as we went.
Peony season!
The new addition to Pike Place Market called Pike up!
Jasper more interested in the boats passing by than having a photo taken.
With our berry haul we made Martha Stewart's Rhubarb Crumb Bars.
You can't get a sense of our PNW lifestyle without going on a hike with us. One morning we hiked Rattlesnake Ridge. And since Cameron was at work I was reminded just how heavy our little guy is!
One night we had dinner at Agua Verde and then played at Gasworks Park until the sun went down.
And lastly we participated in Safety Day at the Museum of Flight. The highlight of our visit was the firetrucks.
