Long weekend in Long Beach

Last year over Mother's Day weekend we stayed at the Adrift Hotel in Long Beach, WA with my parents. We had so much fun we decided to head back and stay at their sister property Inn at Discovery CoastInn at Discovery Coast is a smaller, more intimate hotel, closer to the beach and a tad more luxurious. We stayed in the top corner rooms which had large jetted tubs, unobstructed ocean views and thoughtful touches such as roses and chocolate on your pillow. We spent a majority of out time outdoors riding along the Discovery Trail, eating leisurely meals at the Pickled Fish and enjoying the view.

Long Beach, WA- Traveling with an infant edition

One of our favorite long weekend getaways is to Long Beach, WA. We enjoy biking along the Discovery Trail, eating at thePickled Fish, staying at the Adrift Hotel and in general having the beach to ourselves. Since welcoming our little guy four months ago this is only the second trip we have taken together as a family, the first we took a few days before his two month birthday to the North Cascades. I will be the first to admit traveling with an infant is a game changer, but I will also be the first to encourage all you homebodies to take the leap of faith and travel with your little one. With a little planning ahead of time, altered expectations and flexibility it can prove to be a wonderful experience and create lasting memories for all.

Mother's Day weekend

Mother's Day weekend consisted of one baby bump, one pair of rubber boots, one weekender bag, one beachside hotel, four delicious meals, numerous bike rides along the beach and invaluable time spent with my parents. As I have become older I have realized how inherently divisive motherhood can be and sadly even Mother's Day. Women tend to love it or hate it, there seems to be no middle ground. I recently read an article explaining why so many women dislike Mother's Day and at the root of all reasons was disappointment, guilt or sadness.  My hope for all women, especially on Mother's Day, is that we can be kind to ourselves and allow others to celebrate us despite our imperfections and where we are on the path to motherhood.
